I haven't shared many bible story props recently, because the stories we have been doing have had us reusing previous props, so we haven't needed new ones. The last couple of weeks HAVE needed a couple of small, easy props, so here you go . . . .
We had to cover the story of the woman with the lost coin. We needed coins that would be able to be seen from the back of the school hall but that wouldn't be too huge. Also, in the story text we use it mentions different types of coins, large ones, small ones, thick ones, thin ones and even dented ones. I wanted to make sure all of those were included.
I had some chipboard that I had kept from the back of notepads, and pads of watercolour paper and so on.
I cut the various sized circles out of that, using a circle cutter to mark the circle first, then a craft knife to deepen the cut and go all the way through.
For the thick coin, I used two pieces of chipboard and a piece of foam board and sandwiched them together, gluing well. For the dented coin, I just cut a chunk out of the side of the circle. All of the coins were then painted with metallic paint and decorated with a black marker pen. Then went down well and were easily visible from the back of the school hall of over 300 children.

Living Thankfully

Another week, another list. Here we go then, in no particular order, On Monday 28th May 2012 I am thankful for . . . .
816. the wonderful weather we have had this week.
817. Youngest son being on exam leave meant we both got much needed lie ins on the days he didn't have exams.
818. Fantastic evening walks with hubby.
819. An awesome family doctor who showed a real interest in son's plans to study medicine.
920. Pharmacy counters that are open late.
921. Trains that ensure youngest gets to his morning exams on time.
922. New opportunities.
923. Brave cats who like to visit us and apparently have no fear. Even though I am allergic to them his bravery makes me smile as I try and shoo him back out.
924. The father bringing stuff to the surface so that it can be dealt with.
925. Great weather for the Race for Life Yesterday.
926. I finished the full 5km with no pain even though two shorter practice walks earlier in the week had resulted in pain.
927. Phone call from my dad after the race.
928. Challenge to walk further, 100 miles in 100 days. Hmmmmmm, still considering but I am thankful for the challenge.

Living Thankfully

Another week, another list. Here we go then, in no particular order, On Monday 21st May 2012 I am thankful for . . . .
799. the team that came all the way from America for the writers conference.
800. A fresh flow of the spirit in recent weeks at our church meetings.
801. My first ever mini sermon went well. I got lots of good feedback and was really pleased with how it went.
802. 2 minutes of encouragement. Both giving and receiving. (harder than you think, try it some time).
803. New depth to prayer.
804. For the intro to a new parenting course. For a realisation that god might be setting us up but both husband and I acknowledging that would fit with the things God has spoken over us in the past.
805. Family being in the same city as my eldest son is at university in, so that they can help out when needed.
806. A young adult in the church who is willing to share his knowledge and love of maths with my equally geeky 17 year old son and help him through any sections of his maths course he struggles with.
807. Cafes with big tables and beautiful views so that I can drink my hot chocolate and spread out with my journal and pen, and homework for a course I am doing and take all morning over it if needed.
808. The gentlemen on a neighbouring table who finally left. I am thankful for them leaving, they had been discussing their need of sawn off shotguns and so on, hmmmmm.
809. The encouragement to my son of being invited to an awards evening.
810. Although he didn't win or get runner up he was in the top 4 students on a particular scheme, who were nominated for student of the year.
811. The fun we had on the journey home, with my son joking around with all sorts of accents and things.
812. All the people that picked up the slack on Friday as our two main church leaders at short notice could not attend the first session of a conference we were hosting.
813. All the wonderful worship teams who led us in worship over the weekend, such powerful times.
814. A new freedom and vision and stepping out.
815. being in a church where use of the arts in worship is allowed. And my first time painting properly during worship.
816.

Living Thankfully

Another week, another list. Here we go then, in no particular order, On Monday 14th May 2012 I am thankful for . . . .
780. The incredible breadth of music that glorifies God and the technology that allows us to carry it with us (which reminds me I need to find my usb to phone cable so I can put some more on my phone).
781. Bumping into old friends and their immediate understanding and acknowledgement over a difficult situation that came up in conversation.
782. The 3 day weekend, with an extra day at home for hubby and youngest son.
783. Finally getting through on the phone to the dentist and booking an appointment.
784. My dental problem being easily dealt with.
785. For the plants we were able to get at the cheaper garden place to spruce up our back garden (yard).
786. There was enough of a break in the wet weather for us to get those plants into their containers.
787. The opportunity to be in school each week doing Open the Book bible story assemblies.
788. The head teacher of another school who apologised for the mix up in calendars last time.
789. Having such a flexible church building.
790. The soft comfy carpets in the church foyer.
791. The income the church earns from taking outside bookings for the wonderful spaces we have.
792. Industrial sized carpet Shampooing machines and the tool hire place that is so good to us and let us have one for less than half list price for the day when one of those bookings makes a mess.
793. Awesome weekend at the Written by the Spirit Christian writers conference. WOW, such spirit led and filled worship, and teaching that both challenged and informed in order to increase both our anointing and our skill level.
794. Leadership Interactive at church is pushing me to dig deeper and go beyond what I thought I was willing or able to do.
795. My mini sermon for leadership interactive is finished and will hopefully go well tonight.
796. Awesome gift of loads of fabric for my craft room from a friend at church.
797. The Unlocking the Heart of the Artist online course, the awesome amazing people also doing the course and the incredibly tough homework that makes us dig deep into questions about who we are and what we are called to.
798. The realization that visions and dreams I had before I ever really got into art, could actually be connected with the art stuff.
799.

Bubbles
Just a quick art journal page for today's post. There's a piece I want to do based on something I wrote a few years ago. I have always said that that piece of writing felt unfinished, and I think I now know why.
There wasn't more to write but there was more to come. I need to get it down on paper in art. And seriously I have no artistic training, so the idea of representing these beads, bubbles, whatever they are visually freaked me out. So rather than make my first attempt the finished piece, I figured I would just practise in my art journal.
First of all I painted the bubbles using Neoclor II watercolour crayons.
I like the middle one and the one at the bottom left the best. After drying them I got out my masking fluid and masked off the bubbles. To save ruining a brush with the masking fluid I applied it with a cotton bud.
I used more Neocolor IIs for the background and finally peeled off the masking fluid. Sadly the masking fluid did bring some of the colour up off the bubbles.
I definitely prefer them before the masking fluid, so I'll have to find another way of doing that background. Maybe I'll mask the circles, do the background, remove the masking fluid and then fill in the bubbles. Now I need to practise the positioning and size of the bubbles to make them look like beads on a necklace.
Then there's the really scary part for me, trying to represent those picture that were in the piece of writing inside some of the bubbles.
